Town of Hurley NRI Available Online

December 30, 2025 - The Town of Hurley’s Natural Resources Inventory is now available online!

Hudsonia collaborated with the Town of Hurley to write the Habitats and Wildlife section of the narrative, as well as a series of maps, including a habitat map.

Thank you to the Town of Hurley for the opportunity to work on this project and to all of those who contributed their time and effort to the full report!

From the report:

“The Habitats and Wildlife section of the NRI details the types of natural areas within our town, the specific species that inhabit them, and the natural resources required for their survival. It maps key wildlife habitats, such as forests, grasslands, and wetlands, and documents the plants and animals that reside therein.”

From the Town of Hurley website:

The web page at tinyurl.com/HurleyNY-NRI includes 131 maps and a full set of PDF reports. The main Natural Resources Inventory report – a PDF file that’s both downloadable and printable – is posted at tinyurl.com/HurleyNY-NRI-Report.

The Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) identifies, catalogs, visually maps and describes the natural resources, environmental features and cultural heritage of our community.

Hurley has long prioritized preserving the Town’s rural character and agricultural history by way of community surveys, ClimateSmart initiatives, committee priorities, and numerous studies on open space, groundwater, habitat and wildlife. The NRI is both a consolidation of this past work and a significant extension to it.

The Natural Resources Inventory was created through a partnership with Cornell University and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program, with funding from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund and an extensive volunteer effort by the Hurley Conservation Advisory Committee.
